Tucked away in Prenzlauer Berg, a district that bustles with cafes, bars and restaurants sit two 19th-century buildings, Ackselhaus & Blue Home, just doors apart but a whole world away from Europe’s gritty and edgy capital city of cool.
In Ackselhaus, antiques mix with innovative touches, a sort of funky modern colonialism reigns with individually themed rooms lovingly furnished with old wooden floorboards, a sitting room and kitchenette. Many also look out onto the leafy and sun-drenched Balinese courtyard garden. Next-door Blue Home, has a water-blue façade and an aquatic look and feel – you’ll know it the moment you step through the door into its aquarium-lined entrance hall dotted with fish sculptures. It is also home to the Club del Mar restaurant.
All up this is a pair of very stylish city bolt-holes. The design and décor was inspired by owner Ulf Acksel’s very own travels and we think it will probably give you more than a dash of home-envy with its eclectic, exotic and luxurious mix… and it will probably make you wish you were staying for longer.
